Mal's Alignment Star Chart (Excel)
"When I heard the learn'd astronomer,
When the proofs, the figures, were ranged in columns before me,
When I was shown the charts and diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them,
When I sitting heard the astronomer where he lectured
with much applause in the lecture-room,
How soon unaccountable I became tired and sick,
Till rising and gliding out I wander'd off by myself,
In the mystical moist night-air, and from time to time,
Looked up in perfect silence at the stars."

WHAT'S UP

"What’s Up" Document
The big problem with working with fixed sky charts is that you are never looking at the sky when the chart thinks you should. A Planisphere lets you know what’s up NOW but you need to fiddle around with the adjustments.
The What’s Up Document is an attempt to give you a series of charts to view an entire year with minor fiddling. There are 8 sky charts for a 24 hour day/night period; the vertical center line of each chart is separated by 3 hours. Chart 1 is 1*3hours = a vertical centerline of 3 Hours, Chart 2 is 2*3hours = a vertical centerline of 6 Hours and so on with chart 8 = 24 Hours (aka 0).
The only thing needed now is to know what hour is in the sky now; a selector chart (use bookmark to find the selector chart) should help. Find the month, one of two days (5th or 20th), and the nearest hour. Lets say chart 6 is a starting point, 6*3=18 hours. Hercules is almost straight up. Hercules comings and goings are found on charts either side of chart 6 (charts 5 and 7)
